Soon to be law students

Did you know if you decide to go into law you have to take a LSAT test? I didn’t know for sure what an LSAT test was so I looked it up and it’s an test (exam) that prospective law students have to take and is only given four times a year and is required for all law schools.

To take the test isn’t cheap either. As of 2009 it costs $132 to take the test! The one great thing about it though is if you take the test and you don’t think you did good, you do have six calender days after the exam to cancel your score. The school will still know you took the exam, but they won’t know what you got. Of course I’m sure that wouldn’t look to good either.

Instead of worrying about if you did or will do good what you could do is look at lsat prep courses!  There are quite a few different places that do them but the price on them can range from $690 all the way up to $1299!!   What you would want to do is look at what all the different courses have to offer and find one that will work best for you!  After all, don’t you want the highest score you can get!  The better the score the better you will do at school and then in the real world!

Since my 4 year old daughter has spent most of the week singing and dancing around in her swimsuit to Part Of Your World from The Little Mermaid I thought this would be the perfect Sunday’s Song

Adding the back splash!

Archived in the category: house

We finally decided that this is the spring that we will be adding the back splash in our kitchen, but before we do we need to repaint it.  I think picking out the paint will be the hardest part as we already are disagreeing as to what to do.  I think we should change the color, even if it’s just a little.  It’s currently a creamy white on most of the walls with a dark great above the cabinets.  Parts of me is wondering what it would be like to paint it a very light beigh.. just something a tad different as to at least I would know where I painted and didn’t paint.  ~wink~

The picking out the back splash was easy.  Paul and I already had decided to just go with our countertop, but when Paul went to get a sample just to make sure the place was trying to talk us into going with a smale tile look instead as I guess that’s the latest thing.  Of course I think if they had seen our house they would of known that’s not us as I can’t think of one piece of modern furniture that we have here.  (we like more the country look)

I really do hope that Paul’s days off next week we can pick out some paint and I can get started on that project!   Now that I’m in the mood to get our house looking nice I’m wanting it down NOW.

Wish us luck!  Don’t worry.. I won’t forget to take the before and after pictures!

Prices are going up again

We just got our home owners insurance this past week and once again it went up.  Of course it didn’t surprise me since not this past Thanksgiving, but the year prior we had to make a claim as our refrigerator sprung a leak and left us with major water damage.   Paul still went to our agent to see if there was anything we could do to try and get the price to drop, but unfortunately this time there wasn’t.  Per our agent the prices of everything is going up.  For example to rebuild our house if it burned down would cost a lot more than a couple years ago due to the price of the materials have increased.    That’s where I’m glad we had got a term life insurance quote 7 years ago and bought it then. At least that’s one insurance where the rates won’t increase until the term is done.

I’m feeling so much better already!

Last week, Paul and I ended up finding another house that we liked and were thinking of taking a look at it and if we liked it, putting ours up and making a bid on theirs.   Since it was all coming a reality to me I started taking a look around our house and that’s when I saw our house in a different light and realized we do have a lot of stuff.    Now I knew we had a quite a few toys as it seems like I’m the one who is constantly picking them up, but I never realized how much other stuff we had.

Needless to say I started my spring cleaning and ended up decluttering quite a bit.  The sad thing is as I look around I still see where I need to get rid of more things.    I really wish I would of taken before and after pictures in some areas like my closet.  Here I cry about how I don’t have any clothes to wear, but my closet was always full.  So I ended up going through it piece by piece.  If I haven’t worn it in so long and I don’t see wearing it again it would go in one of two piles.  Garage sale or trash (as some of them had holes or stains on them.. you know those “good” working around the house clothes).   I also did set aside a few clothes that are to small for me that I pray I can get back into some day.  I really didn’t want to get rid of them as I remember loosing the weight before and then finding I had NOTHING to wear at least I would have something to wear to the store to buy more clothes if needed.  ~wink~

I just love looking at my house now as it always seems to be picked up now.  Now I know why some houses look cleaner than others.  The less stuff you have… the cleaner it will look!

It will be interesting when either my parents or Paul’s parents come over for the first time.. will they notice all the cleaning/decluttering we’ve been doing?  I suppose it all depends if the kids are busy playing Lincoln Logs or not.  If they are… I can promise they won’t notice as the logs will be scattered all over the floor.  Oh well.. what can you do?!?  We have to have fun at time too!

GPS.. aka talking lady!

Archived in the category: Vacation

A couple weeks ago we ended up doing our big vacation for the year!  One thing I was looking forward to was the use of our new GPS that my parents got us for Christmas.   Using it around home and to the Detroit area I already knew I was going to like it, but on our vacation I found out how much more I would like it.

I do have to say I have a lot more pro’s than con’s about it.   Here is a list of my pros…

  • You don’t have to study on a map or mapquest how to get somewhere… instead you just punch in the address on your GPS and hit go!  (I still recommend having a map in the car with you just in case she goes off track a little.. I have read horror stories about that)
  • It shows you what the speed limit is and how fast you are going!   I used that feature on it a lot as I hated the speedometer on the van we had rented as it showed 20, 40, 60, 80…. not 10, 20, 30, 40, 50.
  • If you miss a turn she will let you know and will recalculate to get you back on track.
  • It will show you were the nearest doctors/hospitals/police.. etc are.  So say you are driving through Plano Texas and you break a tooth.. you can look up Plano dentist and it will show you where the closest one is!
  • It has a clock on there that will show you at what time you will arrive at your destination.   The only thing is if you stop for gas, supper..etc the time will change so they don’t put in account you stopping for gas even.

Cons:   I really can’t think of to many, but here were a few

  • Sometimes they will tell you to turn on a “road” which could be a two track (that was our case.. but we used our better judgement and just kept driving) or a seasonal road.   I’ve read in the papers about how people got stuck in snow on a seasonal road and was stuck for days on end.  So while it’s nice to not have to think and do what the talking lady says.. you also have to use your better judgement as well.
  • Sometimes it can be a little hard to understand ours at least.  It always sounds like she is saying our next turn will be on the left.. I’ve now learned to look down at it to see which way for sure I will be having to go.

One thing I wish they could add to it that would make me love it even more…  I wish it would beep at you when the speed limit changes!  That way I don’t always have to look over at it to make sure I didn’t miss a speed limit sign.. I could just listen for the beep!   I actually am surprised they haven’t come up with that one yet.

Do you have a GPS?  If so, do you like it?  Or do you have more con’s than pro’s with it?

Heredity

Archived in the category: Health

I never realized it until my sister said something awhile back, but one thing that is heredity in our family is my sister & I along with some of the kids all have dark circles under our eyes.   Here I thought it was always me and I always wondered why me… was I not sleeping enough?  Now by just looking online I found out it actually could mean quite a few different things.  It could be an allergy thing, or it could be a sign of an iron deficiency, Persistent eye rubbing, dehydration or maybe even Velocardiofacial syndrome.

But I guess there are many different things you could do to try and get rid of them.  Besides trying to find the best under eye cream, you could also try to get rid of them by applying cool tea bags, an ice cube wrapped in soft cloth or cucumber slices to your eyes every night for 10-15 minutes, avoid rubbing your eyes, eat a healthy, balanced diet, take vitamins and drink plenty of water or even reduce salt intake.
