Waiting for the bills

Archived in the category: thoughts

Next month is the month that all our car insurance bills are due.  While it’s not a fun month, I’m thankful that we have insurance on our vehicles just in case something does happen.  While this years bills will be higher due to the new truck we just bought (so we have 3 vehicles now and the truck has full coverage) I’m hoping that ball park wise they will be where Paul is thinking they will be.  If not, I’m sure he will start calling around for car insurance quotes to make sure we are getting the best price out there.  (Yes, he does compare apples to apples)

How do you pay for your car insurance?  Monthy, twice a year or once a year?   While I hate the big bill this time of year, I’m glad we are able to pay it that way is one (or 11) less bills to pay during the year, even though it’s a lot bigger.

One bad thing of being a stay at home mom

One thing about being a stay at home mom, you tend to not only lose track of what’s in style clothes wise, but also what the latest electronic gadgets are.  Even to this day I have never personally seen a blackberry (When I hear blackberry I still think of the fruit) and when over hearing my niece & nephews talking about urban clothing I just nod my head and pretend I know what they are talking about even though truly I don’t have the slightest idea.   At least once my kids get a little older they will be able to “teach” me what’s in style and what’s not, until then I guess I will keep trudging on like I have been.

How young is to young?

Our friends ended up buying their 6 year old an atv to keep at their parents house for something to do when he goes up there and  spends the week. Even though it’s a kids size one, I still don’t know how well I would do letting Kevin get on one and go off by himself. It wouldn’t be bad if we had an adult size one that I could go out riding with him in case something happened, but to let him just go I don’t know as if I could do that quite yet. (Unless he stayed where I could see him) How old would your child have to be before you would let him take off by him/herself on their own ATV or Motorcycle?

Reviews and Scams

Archived in the category: thoughts

Hello… my name is Jennifer and I’m addicted to the internet. Of course I’m addicted in a good way as I don’t go to sites that as a married person (or any person for that matter) should go to. Instead I go to my Momma Board, shopping on Craigslist and chatting with friends on Facebook. Another thing I love doing though is reading other people’s blogs, especially when they do reviews because I love hearing people’s honest opinions about a product versus just advertisements. What’s even better though is when people put warnings out about scams like apidexin scam or like I did on my other blog about how Jorge (George) Gomez scammed us a couple years ago on a vacation rental in Florida. I always said if I could save one person from renting from or renting to Jorge Gomez than all my blogging is worth it. I’m thinking other people who write about scams thinks the same way.

What’s your favorite thing to do online?

Pros of good advertising

There are times I enjoy just reading other people’s blogs and most of the time I honestly don’t even remember how I got to them.  Tonight I found one and was reading about the history of Geico Insurance Company and how it started during the great depression.   Things where going good and then the owners Leo & Lillian passed away in the 70′s the company hit a slump until they started focusing on customer service.

What I believe though that helped them the most since was their excellent insurance marketing strategies when they decided in the year 2000 to have a Gecko be their “mascot”.   Between you & me it wasn’t until then that I had even heard of them.  Now when you ask me to name one of the insurance agencies out there that is one of the few I will actually name and it was all due to their marketing!  Since then they had some commercials with cavemen, but I don’t think anything will ever come close to the commercials with the Gecko!

Internet

Do you remember what it was like pre Internet days? I know for me I used to spend more time outside doing things, of course back then I was also a teenager so it seems like I had many more things to do. It’s just funny, you would think with the Internet we would have more time to do things for ourselves as if we have a question all we have to do is google it. For example for teenagers.. they might google getting rid of blackheads and a whole bunch of websites would come up.  Before it would be we would have to call a doctor, set up a doctors appointment and go from there.

Before if we had to do a research paper we would have to go to the library and search through tons of books, now you can sit on your bed, turn on the laptop and you have endless amounts of information out there for you to read from the comfort of your own home.

The only bad thing, is it seems as if we are all getting addicted to being online.  I will be the first to admit I am.    I can’t clean a room without checking my email, checking Facebook or doing a search before the room is cleaned.  Of course most of the time I do it because I can’t help but think if I don’t do something now (for instance the search) then I’ll forget.  Maybe instead I should just write it down on a piece of paper to remind me?!?

Ok.. I better get back to cleaning, but before I do… how do you view yourself?  Do you find yourself addicted to the Internet?

So simple

Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE the ages my kids are (4 & 6) as they now are getting old enough to do things on their own and I don’t have to do every little things for them.  But why is it once they are our of the baby stage companies start coming out with the cutest and coolest things for the little tike’s?    It seems like once I had Katie is when the really cool baby announcements started showing.   It’s amazing how beautiful and simple they are now a days.   I keep thinking, why didn’t I ever think of doing something like that when Kevin & Katie was born?

Smile… you’re on camera.

When you go shopping or to work, do you ever think of all the security cameras that are aimed at you?   I’m not just talking at the store or work either, but how many are connected to the traffic lights, sides of buildings and even the lamp poles.   Even though I don’t do this a lot, but I know I’ve run an “orange” light (one that turned to red as I was under it) before and always wondered if there was a camera on that light and I would be getting a ticket in the mail.

Or you watch those police shows like CSI and a crime will happen and they will go to the stores around them to see if their security cameras picked up anything that might help them in their investigation.

I was watching the news the other day and they were at one of the baseball or football stadiums and they were talking about the security cameras they have there.  They can zoom in and get the licence plate on every car that’s sitting in the parking lot!

I know at Paul’s work they have cameras everywhere except supposedly the bathrooms, but they do have a camera aimed at the bathroom doors.  Paul found that out when he got to go behind scenes once (he hung up a posted some thought was offencive and they had to “chat” with him) and was amazed at where there were camera.  He knew they had some, but never knew there were some in some of the areas they have them.  He learned that night, he better make sure he does  nothing wrong anywhere because they will have it on tape.

It just seems like where ever you go, you are on video.  To me while it’s suppose to keep us safe, I can’t help but think about how big brother is watching us all the time.  Are we ever able to just let our hair down and not have to worry about being taped?

Companies going green

Archived in the category: thoughts

It doesn’t surprise me that more and more companies are starting to go green.  I’m sure they are getting some tax breaks by going green, but I truly think that a lot of people are willing to spend a little more for a product if the company is green versus non green, for example I spend more on my dish soap, but I love the fact that the one I use has all natural products in it versus a bunch of chemicals because I’m sure there is always residue left on the plates and such after washing them.

Another company that is green would be Flexo Cleaners.  So if you’re one to be needing to buy Anilox roll cleaninghere is another option of places to buy it and you can also help “save the environment” while you’re at it!

Soon to be law students

Archived in the category: thoughts

Did you know if you decide to go into law you have to take a LSAT test? I didn’t know for sure what an LSAT test was so I looked it up and it’s an test (exam) that prospective law students have to take and is only given four times a year and is required for all law schools.

To take the test isn’t cheap either. As of 2009 it costs $132 to take the test! The one great thing about it though is if you take the test and you don’t think you did good, you do have six calender days after the exam to cancel your score. The school will still know you took the exam, but they won’t know what you got. Of course I’m sure that wouldn’t look to good either.

Instead of worrying about if you did or will do good what you could do is look at lsat prep courses!  There are quite a few different places that do them but the price on them can range from $690 all the way up to $1299!!   What you would want to do is look at what all the different courses have to offer and find one that will work best for you!  After all, don’t you want the highest score you can get!  The better the score the better you will do at school and then in the real world!
