What a difference

Today was another toasty day in good ol’ west Michigan. Thankfully with schools starting on the 7th that means fall is on it’s way, which means cooler weather.   I just wish every night was like how last night was.. it was perfect weather for a camp fire or for your Paul to put the kids to bed so I could go for a bike ride.  I so enjoyed pedaling and hearing nothing.. listening to either cars drive past me or flat out nothing.  The sun just starting to go down where you could get some awesome pictures.  It’s then when I’m by  myself that I start looking at the houses I’ll passing by thinking about what it would be if we lived in their house.  Would I do anything different?

One of the houses I went by I know for a fact I would be putting some blinds & shades up as their house faced west and so does ours and that afternoon sun just cooks our house.  I can’t help but think if they had some blinds or shades that they closed during the afternoons it would help on their electric bill as I have noticed a difference between keeping our blinds & shades down versus up.

So far after riding past quite a few houses, I haven’t found my dream house yet.  Of course maybe that’s because I would rather not live on that rode as it could be quite busy.  I still do dream about moving someday, unfortunately my husband doesn’t see things that way.  All he sees is the work he’s put into this house so far and doesn’t want to leave because of that.  Even though the lay out of our house is all wrong for a family whose breadwinner works second shift.  Oh well, maybe I can find his dream house and thing will start thinking twice.

Summer 1/2 over!

I just looked at the calendar and realized that it’s just about August and you know what that means… only a little over a month and my baby boy will be going to school FULL TIME!  Oh how different that will be for me.  I know I will miss him dearly as he is my big helper around the house, but then again, I won’t be missing the fighting between the two all day long.   I just can’t imagine how busy our life will start being.  Having to be up and to the bus stop at 8:20, Katie to preschool Tues & Thursday afternoons and then taking Kevin to karate up to 4 times a week. (I will try to have him go at least twice, but if he doesn’t have homework and feels up to going more.. I’ll let him)

I can’t imagine what it will be like when they are older and will start doing sports or Katie starting Dance or Karate.  Karate would be nice as they would be the same time, same place.. .but I know her heart is more into Dance right now.  I did end up finding a dance class that is during the day on Katie’s days off of school so I really think that would be our better option at least this year if I decide to start her in that.

So are you ready for school to start?  Or are you wishing this summer would last a little longer?

Camping!

Paul and I have both camped before in the past, but never with each other and now that the kids are older and we are debt free we feel like now is when we can start playing a little and by playing we are thinking camping and taking our boat so we can also fish & tube!

This past Wednesday we ended up going up to Ludington State Park just for the day. It was 90 degrees and just a perfect day to be on the water. We got up there a little later than we had planned, but still had a ton of fun. First we did about 15 minutes of fishing until the kids got so bored and hot as all they wanted to do was swim & tube. So off to find our private beach (which we did) and we ended up beaching the boat so we could play in the water! The water felt so good, chilly but you got used to it really fast. After playing there for awhile and running up and down the sand dune we decided it was time to take the kids out on the tube we had just bought (thanks to Craigslist) on the way up. We ended up getting a two person tube where the kids can sit down on their rumps so you don’t have to worry as much about them falling off. (I’ll post pictures soon) They had so much fun! I ended up putting on a life jacket and went with them too and had a blast!

Then we went back to our private beach and once again played in the water, went up and down the sand dune and had a picnic.   As we headed back to the launch Kevin was wondering if we could go camping.  We told him we couldn’t this time, but we would someday soon!

So now I have to think of what all to pack for when we do.  When Kevin went fishing a few weeks ago with his friend I would of swore they were packing everything since he took one of our floor lamps, their ipods, and if I remember  right a fan!  I started teasing him when he left if he had packed the kitchen sink too.  Of course now that it’s time for me to think about packing for when we go I’m wondering what do I want to take?  Paul said the floor lamp was nice as then you could see things when it got dark out and you didn’t have to worry about the flashlights as much.  Plus I bet when it’s hot a fan would come in handy as I don’t do to well with heat.

What’s one thing that you take camping that if other people heard about it would laugh at you?
